Name: Randy Bass
Randy “Ernest T.” Bass, age 44, of Blackshear, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
The Appling Co. native was born July 12, 1965 to the late William R. “Dub” Bass and the late Eucu Lee Smith Bass and lived in Hazlehurst most of his life but had lived in Blackshear for the past year. He was a member of the Hazlehurst Church of God and was the Recreation Director in Pierce County. He was very active as an umpire and refereed throughout the State of Georgia and was a member of the GHSA.
Survivors include his wife, Mariann Bass of Blackshear; sons, Brad Collins of Blackshear and Jonathan Collins of Whidbey Island Naval Station in Oak Harbor, WA; sisters, Diana Leggett, Martha Feller, Marie Davis all of Hazlehurst and Connie Dixon of Ladson, SC; and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 12th from 6 to 8pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 13th at 3:00pm from the Hazlehurst Church of God with Rev. David Deen, Rev. Nathan Smith, & Rev. Virginia Herrington officiating. Interment will follow in the Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Bass will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service.
Active pallbearers will be Hugh Thompson, Randy Smith, Jerry Boatright, Randy Dixon, Roy Waters, Scott Teston, Loran Tuten, Mike Lynn, Scottie Graham, Wilton McCall, Wayne Murphy, & Jeremy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be All Past & Present Employees of the Recreation Departments of all surrounding counties, Members of GHSA, and all former teammates.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 14th at 11:00 AM from First Baptist Church of Blackshear with Rev. Ricky Baldwin and Rev. Bill Young officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles (1692 Glynco Pkwy Brunswick, GA 31525) or The Randy Bass Benefit Fund (c/o The Heritage Bank 228 Main St. Blackshear, GA 31516).
The family will assemble at the home of Edward & Diana Leggett, 111 Jefferson St. Hazlehurst.
Funeral arrangements for Randy “Ernest T.” Bass, age 44, are under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home of Hazlehurst.
