ANNOUNCES THE DEATH AND FUNERAL SERVICE OF …
Melvin Carter, age 90, of 71 Melvin Carter Road Hazlehurst, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Jeff Davis Hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Carter was born October 11, 1918 in Appling County to the late Arthur Carter and the late Lula Hutto Carter. He was employed by Hazlehurst Mills and was a Veteran of World War II serving in the United Sates Army. He was preceded in death by a grandson Ryan Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty Berge Carter of Hazlehurst; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Judy Carter of Hazlehurst and David and Connie Carter of Rincon; grandson, Brad Carter and two great grandsons, Isabella Carter and Brady Carter.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 7th at 2pm at Satilla Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mr. Carter will lie in state at the Church one hour prior to service time.
The family will assemble at the residence, 71 Melvin Carter Road, Hazlehurst.
Funeral arrangements for Melvin Carter, age 90, are under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
